Cynthia A. Barnes, Ph.D., seeks to empower educators to transform,
not just re-form, schools and staff development practices. Cynthia has
25 years experience as a change agent in public and proprietary schools;
adult education programs; colleges and universities; as well as in corporate
and job-training settings.
She has facilitated interactive, learner-centered seminars and workshops
on topics such as Creating Standards-Based Classrooms, Schools, and
Districts; Performance Assessment at the Heart of Learning; Teaching
for Critical Thinking across the Curriculum; Learning Styles; The Development
Waves of Teachers as Learners; Active Learning Strategies; and Staff
Development for Change. She has keynoted at regional, national, and
international conferences.
Cynthia A. Barnes has served as a college dean, professional development
and special projects director, and college faculty member. In addition,
she has been a teacher and administrator in middle and secondary schools,
in adult education programs, at the preschool level, as well as for
job-training programs for welfare recipients and the unemployed/underemployed.
She formerly directed an internationally acclaimed teacher training
program named a State of Colorado Program of Excellence. Her grant-writing/development
skills have secured more than $1.5 million, including U.S. Department
of Education funds to design and conduct a professional development
program for college faculty of color.
A former Distinguished Faculty Member of the Year, Cynthia also received
the National Teaching Excellence Award for the University of Texas
at Austin and the John Fry Individual Merit Award from the National
Council for Staff Program and Organizational Development. She has
been cited in Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who of American
Women, Who's Who of Emerging Leaders, Who's Who of Women Executives.
